Quick tip: Blush for your lips!

Sunday 27 April 2014

Hey girls!

I thought it would be time for me to write a beauty related post.

If you’re like me and you have pretty thin lips that you don’t want to overly accentuate but don’t want to neglect as well, than I have the perfect solution for you!

Try using blush on your lips. It may sound weird and you might think that it will leave your lips looking really dry. But they won’t! Not if you follow these steps:

1. choose your favorite lip balm.

The more moisture it has, the better for your lips! Using a lip balm as a base for your blush will make sure that your lips won’t look dry, but perfectly healthy and moisturised instead.

Babylips by Maybelline are my faves!

2. Pick your favorite blush.

Choose a blush that you love, but also matches your lips.

It's important that you use you fingers to apply the blush on your lips. Just rub your finger on the blush and tap it on your lips. It will give you the right amount of product.

3. Use a lip balm on top.

You can skip this part if you're totally happy with the result you’ve become after step 2, but if you feel like you need that extra shine, then read on! Put some lipbalm on top of the blush, it gives you a more glossy effect.

Voila, this !s my quick tip! I hope you enjoyed it. I also think that using a blush on your lips, gives you a more natural look. - Amal

LONG HAIR, DO CARE!

Monday 21 April 2014

I love having long hair. But it's such a hassle to keep it healthy and pretty. Here are some tips to keep your hair gorgeous, shiny and split-end free.

1. Cut your hair every 3 - 4 months

I know, I know, why would you cut hair if you want to keep it long or grow it out? But you do need to get rid of your split ends so your hair doesn't look dry and frizzy. By cutting the damaged ends of your hair, you will be left with more voluminous and healthy locks.

2. Use the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair

It's important to buy the right products for your hair. Don't use a shampoo for dry hair if your hair tends to get greasy or oily. And vice versa. Don't wash your hair every day because that makes your hair more vulnerable and will break off easily. You can "train" your locks not to be oily. Every time you want to wash your hair because it looks oily, just add an extra day and wash it the day after. A great time to do this is during summer break. I've been doing this and I can go a week without washing my hair and it doesn't look gross ;-)

3. Deep-condition your hair

Conditioning after shampooing your hair in the shower is not enough. Most people struggle with dry and split-ends. You can avoid this by deep-conditioning your hair. Use a hair mask or just regular conditioner on your wet hair and put it in a towel, leave it in for a couple of hours and wash it out. If you don't have time for this, you can just do this when you're sleeping and wash it out in the morning. But if you're in for a pampering session, I highly recommend leaving a hair mask in when you're in the sauna because the heat of the room will help with the deep-conditioning.

4. Use heat-protecting products

Do you curl or straighten your hair often? Don't forget to use heat-protecting products since a hair straightener or curler damages your hair like crazy. It's a love-hate relationship since these tools make your hair gorgeous but also damages it.

5. Brush your hair

This is weird but brushing your hair is a must. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of brushing my hair since I'm lazy and my hair is naturally straight. By brushing your hair, you will remove the not-so-healthy strands and it also makes your hair shiny and soft! So why not brush it? I've purchased a detangler recently and I love it.

DIY eye shadow primer

Wednesday 9 April 2014

Hello there!

Putting a primer before eye shadow is a must, if you want the colour to stay longer. The colour is also more pigmented and you don't need to build up multiple times. It will help for people with oily eyelids because the primer makes the eyeshadow stay right where it needs to be.

Now I know some primers can be really expensive so here's a recipe on how to make one yourself. It's super easy!

What do you need?
- an odourless body lotion or moisturiser
- a concealer
- a small container
- a toothpick

First, you take your tiny container. I'm using an old gel liner container from Bobbi Brown, but you can use anything. Then, you add 1/2 concealer and 1/2 odourless body lotion. I'm using a L'oréal concealer and a Nivea body lotion. I like using a thick lotion so the primer stays on for a very long time. After you've added your two ingredients, mix them together with a toothpick and VOILA! You have your own, homemade primer!

This is what the two ingredients mixed together looks like

Below, you can see some swatches of eyeshadow with and without the primer. I put some primer on my hand and added one swipe of eyeshadow with a brush. As you can see, this makes A HUGE difference. This primer lasts about 6-8 hours, which is a reasonable time for a homemade primer.

Hope you liked this post,

Molly

Don’t hit snooze!

Monday 7 April 2014

Hello lovely readers!

Well, I've got to tell you guys; I’m not the best when it comes to getting up on time. I will constantly be late for meetings, appointments, things planned with my friends, … and worse of all; I skip morning classes all the time! Not because I don’t want to go, but simply because I keep on hitting the snooze button morning after morning.

Because I’m on an internship, I want to learn myself to get up on time. I just can’t be showing up late at my internship. That's not even an option. That’s why I started a research on waking up on time.

I’m more than glad to share my findings with you, because a well balanced sleep rhythm is important for many reasons other than being on time for appointments: It’s good for you skin, your health, your mood, ...

If you go to bed on time and wake up on time, you’re going to be much more happy and life will be soooo much easier!

Ok. It’s clear that I know that going to bed and waking up on time is highly important. I’m also more than convinced that a lot of you know the benefits of a well balanced sleep rhythm. Now It’s time to take action! Please find below some tips on how to not hit the snooze button

First of all, go to bed on time!

You really have to get enough sleep. A human being needs at least seven hours of sleep a night. It's even better if you can make it till eight hours! Keep in mind that you'll need like half an hour to get in sleep modus, so always go half an hour earlier to bed: when you need to wake up on six o' clock, then go to bed by nine thirty.

Set the right alarm sound.

The right kind of sound varies from person to person. Some people need very harsh tones, some need relaxing music. You will have to find out what sound makes you wake up. I've, for instance, found out that I shouldn't use a police siren anymore. Where I live, I hear those all the time. It won't even wake me up anymore. For me, relaxing music is no good option as well. It will only drift me back to sleep.

Of course, place your alarm clock far away from your bed.

Ok. This one is basics. It's common knowledge that you should do this. I mention this one, only so you won't forget about it :-) When you place your alarm on the other side of the room, you'll need to get out of bed to turn it off. The urge to go back to sleep will be lower when you've already walked across the room.

Do not close your curtains.

Open your curtains BEFORE going to bed, that way the sunlight will wake you up in the morning. There is no better feeling than to be woken up by the sun. It gives you an instant happy feeling.

Keep yourself busy.

Don't go sit on the edge of your bed. Instead, take a shower.  The feeling of water flowing over your body, the smell of shower gel, the sound of water, ... all great things to boost your awakening!
It will give you the nicest feeling, and you'll thank yourself afterwards for dragging yourself to the bathroom.

Drink a glass of water.

We all know that water is good for you. It keeps your skin healthy, it purifies your body, boosts your immune system, ... But why should we wake up to drinking water? Because it fires up your metabolism. After a good night of sleep, a glass of water wil put your metabolism back into motion. It's a good way to start your day!

If you have sleep problems, then I hope this post helped! Do you have some tips to add? We would love to hear them!
